Paper cups - takeout

How to recycle paper cups

Recycle empty paper cups in your blue cart or community recycling depot, including:

  • Coffee cups and sleeves (example: Tim Hortons, McDonalds)
  • Fast food drink cups
  • Paper soup containers
  • Frozen yogurt cups

Special instructions

  • Put plastic lids, cutlery and stir sticks in your black cart as garbage.
  • Remove the cardboard sleeve for recycling
  • If you have a compostable coffee cup, see Compostable Takeout Containers

Why can't this be composted?

Paper cups have a plastic lining to prevent the container from becoming soggy. To ensure we are creating the highest quality compost possible, leave this item out of your green cart.
