How to dispose
There are two ways to dispose of propane tanks and cylinders depending on the type of tank.
Tanks and cylinders under 30lbs

Take to a household hazardous waste drop-off location
Safely dispose of propane tanks under 30 lbs for free at a household hazardous waste drop-off location (designated fire hall). You can also take propane tanks to a City Eco Centre – if you bring with other garbage, charges will apply.
Vehicle tanks

Take to a special drop-off location
Vehicle propane tanks are not accepted at City Eco Centres or landfills. Contact a metal recycler as they may accept them for a fee.
Special instructions
- Do not puncture or crush propane tanks.
- Never put propane tanks into any of your blue, black or green carts. It is a major safety hazard for your driver and staff at the processing facilities.
