How to dispose of pressure-treated wood (including decking and fence boards)

Pressure-treated wood

Painted wood

Examples of treated wood

  • Wood that is chemically treated or pressure-treated
  • Wood that is stained or painted
  • Wood that has nails, screws or other hardware attached

How to dispose

There are two ways to dispose of pressure-treated wood depending on whether you have small or large quantities.

Small quantities of treated wood

  • Put into your black cart

Put small quantities of treated wood into your black cart as garbage.

Treated wood pieces must be less than:

  • 15 cm (six inches) in diameter.
  • 1.25 m (four feet) in length.
  • Make sure the lid of the cart can close.

Large quantities and oversized treated wood

  • Take to a City Eco Centre

Take large quantities of treated wood and oversized pieces of treated wood to a City Eco Centre for disposal – charges will apply.
