Wood – Untreated

Untreated lumber (no nails, paint)

How to dispose

There are two ways to dispose of untreated wood depending on whether you have small or large quantities.

Small quantities of untreated wood

  • Put into your green cart

Put small amounts of untreated wood into your green cart for composting. It does not include particle board, plywood, MDF and OSB.

Wood pieces must be less than:

  • 15 cm (6 inches) in diameter
  • 1.25 m (4 feet) in length
  • Make sure the lid of the cart can close

Special instructions

  • Wood must be free of nails, screws, etc.
  • Put wood shavings and sawdust in a certified compostable bag or paper bag. Place the tied up/rolled up bag into your green cart for composting.

Large quantities and oversized untreated wood

  • Take to a City Eco Centre

Take large amounts of untreated wood and oversized pieces of untreated wood from renovations and demolitions to a City Eco Centre for disposal – charges will apply.

For businesses

If you are a business with untreated wood to dispose of, it can only be accepted at East Calgary and Spyhill Eco Centre locations. If you bring separated, clean loads of untreated wood, a reduced rate is applied. See hours and locations here.
