How to dispose

There are two ways to dispose of lawn tools depending on whether they are electric or gas-powered.

Gas-powered lawn tools

  • Take to a City Eco Centre

Take gas-powered lawn tools to a City Eco Centre for metal recycling – charges will apply.

Drain all oils and fuels from the lawn tool before bringing in for disposal.

  • Take to a special drop-off location

You can also take metal lawn tools to a private metal recycler. Some private companies may buy scrap metal, charge a fee or accept items for free. Contact a metal recycler directly to find out what they accept. Options include: 

Electric lawn tools

  • Take to an electronics recycling drop-off

Take old and broken electric lawn tools for free to an electronics recycling drop-off. You can also take these items to a City Eco Centre for free – if you bring with other garbage, charges will apply.
