The Conservation of Day and Night
After more than five decades outdoors, Katie Ohe’s terrazzo fountain Day and Night has been carefully conserved and relocated indoors. The sculpture’s delicate surface, shaped by years of Calgary’s freeze–thaw cycles, required meticulous restoration.
Working closely with Ohe, The City’s conservator and conservation team dismantled, cleaned, and repaired the work, renewing its original green and grey terrazzo finish. Guided by Ohe’s insights, every step honoured the artist’s original vision and craftsmanship.
Now restored and secure in its new setting, Day and Night continues to embody Ohe’s quiet persistence and dedication to form, material, and movement through time.
