Civic Census 2020
City Suspends 2020 Census Collection
The City of Calgary conducts a census to obtain an official count of dwelling units, population and other demographic information. Census data is used to make informed decisions on the provision of population based city services. In keeping with provincial legislation, census data is collected door-to-door and online starting April 1, and ending mid-June.
Like other City services, The City of Calgary has evaluated the impact of the Covid-19 virus on the ability to deliver an effective census outcome. The door-to-door collection of data and gathering of census workers for required training presents an unnecessary risk to census workers and citizens.
As a result, The City will be postponing the census at this time. We are working with the census team and our partners to explore completing the census later this year or possibly next year. This decision will be made at a later date.
We thank everyone who applied. Further communications will follow directly to applicants.
