Ward 14 - Peter Demong

Janaury 2020 Newsletter

Happy New Year Ward 14!

I hope you had a great holiday season! Here is some of what you can expect in 2020.

Mark your calendar – Counciltalk & Ward 14 Communities BBQ

There is no such thing as planning too far ahead, so I want you to mark some very important dates in your calendar. First is September 19, 2020, which will be the date of my next Ward 14 Communities BBQ. You can join me there in the Centennial High School parking lot from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Second is an important set of dates. It is my Counciltalk session schedule. You can find it at calgary.ca/counciltalk, and you are welcome to join me for one, or two, or however many you wish. My first Counciltalk session of the year will be on Saturday, January 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at Deer Park United Church (77 Deerpoint Rd. S.E.). All of these sessions, including my BBQ, are intended to give my constituents a chance to have my ear. I hope to see you there.

Watch for your 2020 Property Assessment Notice

The City of Calgary will be mailing property assessment notices on Jan.2, 2020 and they are also now available online. The information contained in these assessment notices will be used to prepare the 2020 property tax bills, and it is very important that you check them to make sure everything is correct.

The Assessment Customer Review Period runs from Jan. 2 to March 10. If you have any questions about your property assessment you can contact the Assessment Department during the Customer Review Period, and I strongly recommend you do so. You can call them at 403-268-2888. You can also visit calgary.ca/assessment to get more information, access the Assessment Search, and sign up for paperless eNotices. By logging into Assessment Search, you can review your assessment, compare it to other similar properties.

Resolve to support Calgary businesses and buy local

Small businesses build community, and it is especially important during these times that we return the favour. If you are resolving to do anything this year, I hope you will consider making an effort to support local businesses. Calgarians can get involved by posting about local business to #BuyLocalYYC, and businesses can get involved at calgary.ca/buylocal.
