Information | Weaselhead Boardwalk Replacement Project: April 2026

The Weaselhead Boardwalk Replacement Project is underway. This long-awaited improvement restores safe, year-round access while strengthening the site’s ability to manage flooding, erosion and ongoing use along the Elbow River Side Channel.

The new boardwalk follows the existing alignment to minimize land disturbance and is elevated to improve accessibility, flood resilience and long-term performance. Erosion control measures, designated access points and targeted fencing will help stabilize soil and protect sensitive riparian areas.

Wherever possible, preparation work is completed off-site to reduce on-site disruption. On-site construction is expected to take approximately one month (pending weather and water conditions), followed by ongoing monitoring to ensure the boardwalk and surrounding habitat are functioning as intended.
