What to do during a boil water advisory

If a boil water advisory is issued by Alberta Health Services for your area, all residents and businesses are advised to bring all tap water to a rolling boil for one full minute before using it for:

  • Drinking, including coffee and tea
  • Cooking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Cleaning raw foods
  • Preparing infant formula or juices
  • Making ice, etc.

Bathing, laundry and cleaning

You do not need to boil water for:

  • bathing
  • doing laundry

If you're washing dishes or cleaning surfaces without a dishwasher, use boiled water.

Using bottled or filtered water

You can purchase bottled water instead of boiling tap water while the advisory is in effect.

In-home water filters do not make tap water safe during a boil water advisory. Water from these filters must still be boiled before use.
