Why is The City offering this pilot program?

Many Calgary homes continue to use older, inefficient or leaking bathroom fixtures that can increase water use and utility costs. The Home Water Savings Rebate Program encourages residents to replace these fixtures with eligible water-efficient alternatives.

As a limited 2026 pilot program, the rebate will help The City of Calgary and Green Calgary better understand customer interest, application and administration requirements and potential water savings from fixture replacement. The pilot will also help inform future water conservation and demand management initiatives.

Can renters, landlords or property managers apply?

Some renters may be eligible if they are responsible for the property's water utility account and meet all program requirements.

Landlords or property managers may be eligible if they are applying for one qualifying unit/address and meet all program requirements.

Bulk, multi-property and whole-building applications are not eligible.

Is this the same as the Home Upgrades Program?

No. The Home Water Savings Rebate Program is a separate rebate pilot delivered with Green Calgary.

  • applications
  • rebate status
  • payments
  • submitted applications

Contact 311 for questions about:

  • program eligibility
  • eligible fixtures
  • general program information

Can I apply for more than one fixture or household, unit or address?

No. The rebate applies to one eligible WaterSense-labelled bathroom fixture at one eligible household, unit or address. Applicants cannot combine multiple fixtures, households, units or addresses into one rebate claim.

This is a limited pilot program with limited rebate funding. The one-fixture limit helps make the program available to as many eligible Calgarians as possible while funding lasts.

If my fixture costs less than $150, will I still receive $150?

No. The rebate is for the eligible fixture cost, up to a maximum of $150. If your eligible WaterSense-labelled bathroom fixture costs less than $150, your rebate will not exceed the eligible amount shown on your receipt or invoice.

For example, if your eligible fixture costs $85, the maximum rebate you could receive is $85. Applicants are responsible for any costs above $150 and for any non-eligible costs, such as labour, installation, plumbing services, tools, parts, accessories or other related costs.

Can I reserve a rebate before purchasing a fixture?

No. The fixture must be purchased and installed before applying.

Why does The City of Calgary need access to my ENMAX Water Account information?

The City of Calgary uses ENMAX Water Account information to help confirm that the application is connected to the correct household, unit or address, and that the applicant is the residential water utility account holder.

The applicant name, ENMAX Water Account number and account holder information must match the household, unit or address entered in the application. This helps confirm that the rebate is going to the correct eligible applicant.

Where can residents find their ENMAX Water Account number?

The ENMAX Water Account number is a 9-digit number found near the top of the resident’s ENMAX statement. Residents should enter the account number for the household, unit or address where the fixture was installed. The applicant name, ENMAX Water Account number and account holder information must match the application details.

What proof of purchase do I need for my application?

Before applying, make sure you have:

  • Your full name, email address and phone number.
  • Your ENMAX Water Account number.
  • The address where the fixture was installed.
  • The fixture brand, type and model number.
  • The purchase date.
  • The receipt, invoice or transaction number.
  • A clear photo or copy of your itemized receipt or invoice.
  • Your preferred rebate payment method.

Receipt requirements

Your itemized receipt or invoice must show:

  • The vendor name.
  • Purchase date.
  • WaterSense fixture as a line item or clearly described product.
  • Price and taxes.
  • Receipt, invoice or transaction number.

If your vendor does not clearly describe the WaterSense fixture as a line item, contact Green Calgary before submitting your application.

Fixture information

The application asks for the fixture model number. You may find the model number on the product packaging, the manufacturer's website or through the WaterSense product search.

If you cannot find the model number, contact Green Calgary before applying.

Information about your old fixture

The application may ask for information about the fixture you replaced, including:

  • Age of the fixture (if known).
  • Brand or model number (if known).
  • A photo or written description.

For toilets, you may be asked to provide the flush volume if it can be identified from a label or marking inside the tank.

Photos

Your receipt or invoice is the primary proof-of-purchase requirement. The application may also request photos or additional information to support application review or program evaluation.

Can I apply if I purchased my fixture before Aug. 4, 2026?

No. Only fixtures purchased and installed on or after Aug. 4, 2026 are eligible.

How should I dispose of my old fixture?

Old toilets, faucets and showerheads should not be placed in your blue cart.

Before disposing of your old fixture, consider whether any parts can be reused, repaired or donated. Disposal options may depend on the fixture type, size and material.

Use The City of Calgary’s What Goes Where residential recycling and disposal search tool to check disposal options for toilets, faucets, packaging and other materials. If the search tool does not list your specific item, or if you are unsure how to dispose of it, contact 311.

How will I receive my rebate?

Approved applicants may receive their rebate by e-transfer or mailed cheque through Green Calgary.

Rebate amount

The rebate is up to $150 toward one eligible WaterSense-labelled bathroom fixture per eligible household, unit or address.

If your eligible fixture costs less than $150, the rebate amount will not exceed the eligible purchase amount shown on your receipt.

Applicants are responsible for any costs above $150, including applicable taxes, fees and other expenses.

Payment timing

If your application is approved, you should receive your rebate within 8 to 10 weeks of submitting a complete application. E-transfer is expected to be faster than mailed cheque. Mailed cheques may take longer to arrive because they are sent by regular mail.

E-transfer payments

If you choose e-transfer, Green Calgary may use Plooto to issue your rebate payment. Plooto will email you instructions to accept the payment.

E-transfers issued through Plooto can only be deposited into Canadian bank accounts. If you do not have a Canadian bank account, select mailed cheque as your preferred payment method.

Mailed cheques

If you choose to receive a mailed cheque, it will be sent to the mailing address provided in your application.

What happens if funding runs out?

Funding is limited and is expected to support approximately 1,500 rebates, depending on the rebate amounts approved. Applications are reviewed on a first come, first served basis.

If available funding is fully allocated, the program may close before Dec. 1, 2026. If funding remains available, additional eligible applications may continue to be reviewed until the program closes or available funding is allocated.
