78 Ave LRT Bridge

The 78 Avenue LRT bridge will run parallel along the west side of the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway line. Expanding on the recently completed 78 Avenue Project, the bridge will be built beside the new underpass that connects 78 Avenue to Ogden Dale Road on the east side of the railway line.

Scope of work

The scope of work for this project will include grading of the site, erosion and sediment control, drilling of concrete piles to build the foundation for the bridge abutments, and bridge construction, which will consist of steel girders and a concrete bridge deck.

June 2026 Update

Construction of the 78 Avenue LRT bridge continues to advance, with several important milestones recently achieved.

The steel girders that will span the roadway and support the bridge deck have now been fabricated and are scheduled for installation later this summer, marking a significant step toward completing the bridge structure.

Foundation work is also progressing well. Crews are currently drilling piles for the bridge’s north and south abutments—the structures that anchor the bridge to the ground and provide the transition between the elevated span and the surrounding roadway.

As construction takes place adjacent to an active Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) rail corridor, baseline track monitoring, as well as noise and vibration surveys, were completed in April. This work established benchmark conditions that will help the project team carefully monitor construction activities, protect railway operations, maintain safety, and minimize impacts throughout the remainder of construction.

Together, these activities represent important progress on the 78 Avenue LRT bridge as work continues toward the next phase of construction.
