Green Line takes over former Lilydale site in preparation for Phase 1 construction - Feb. 18, 2022
Today the Green Line LRT officially takes over the site of the former Lilydale plant in Ramsay. The City purchased the property to make way for the Green Line and worked with the owners, Sofina Foods, Inc., to find their new location in southeast Calgary at the Dufferin North Industrial Park.
The Green Line LRT project requires the land to accommodate the elevated guideway connecting the Ramsay-Inglewood and 26 Avenue SE stations. In 2015, Green Line worked with the community and developer stakeholders to create the Inglewood/Ramsay/26 Avenue S.E. community concept plan that focused on the revitalization of one of Calgary’s oldest, historic communities while supporting local businesses, entrepreneurs and the community.
“Phase 1 of the Green Line LRT project is the largest LRT project in the City’s history and will run from Shepard in the southeast to Eau Claire. Our team has worked to secure the land required to build this important piece to our transit network,” said Jarret Moisan, Manager Sales and Acquisition for the Green Line. “ Strategic land purchases such as this will support the continued revitalization of our City, supporting community development around Green Line stations.”
The existing plant is slated for demolition later this year following environmental assessment and clean-up over the next several months. In the meantime, the Green Line LRT project is exploring other use opportunities for this site before it is used for Green Line construction, anticipated to begin in 2024.
