Meet the Calgarians building the Green Line - Stephen James
Stephen James, the Senior Manager of Engineering and Design at Green Line, has been working on the project for almost five years. James and his team work together to develop concepts and designs for Green Line’s contractors.
His career as an engineer got off to a unique start – he started his university experience at the University of Calgary as a music major, playing classical guitar. But after taking a couple introductory physics classes, Stephen found his passion for engineering.
“You just have to give everything a try, and see what your interests are,” said Stephen.
He’s been working with the city for almost 15 years and started when Calgary transit was just expanding. His first transit-oriented job was working on the Oliver Bowen Maintenance Facility, which was the newest light rail vehicle maintenance facility of its time.
With his passion for engineering public transportation projects, Stephen understands the scale and value of this new infrastructure investment, “This project is huge, and it's been on the books for a long time as part of Calgary’s route ahead.”
Upon completion, the Green Line is expected to serve hundreds of thousands of Calgarians in areas that formerly had limited transportation access.
