Mobile chairs in parks pilot project
Why are we doing this?
At Parks & Open Spaces, we’re always looking for ways to create more welcoming, accessible, and inclusive public spaces. Based on input from community members, 311 requests, and observations from our Operations staff, we’ve identified a need for more flexible seating options in parks and green spaces.
To uphold our commitment to safe park spaces for all, our aim is to eliminate the use of household chairs in select parks and replace them with safe, outdoor-rated chairs available for all park users.
Why it matters
- Reduces clutter and improves safety by offering inviting, outdoor-rated, ready-to-use seating.
- Encourages social connection by making it easier for people to sit together.
- Creates more inclusive spaces that reflect the needs of diverse park users.
- Demonstrates our commitment to evolving park spaces to better serve the public.
Movable chairs have been introduced to support small group gatherings. To help keep the park safe and accessible for all, we kindly ask that you do not bring personal furniture into this park in the future.
Chairs must remain in the park!
