Southland Dr S.W. road reconstruction
Project overview
In 2026 - 2027, the Annual Paving Program will bring important and visible upgrades to Southland Dr S.W. Deteriorated pavement and concrete infrastructure will be replaced to improve reliability and extend the lifespan of the corridor. We will also be making targeted improvements to better support all users including pedestrians and cyclists.
This project includes reconstruction of approximately 2 km of roadway between Oakmoor Way S.W. and 14 St S.W., repaving of 800 m of roadway between 14 St S.W. and Elbow Dr S.W., and repairs and select improvements to existing curbs, wheelchair ramps, and sidewalks including a connection to a future pathway planned for 24 St S.W. In addition, we will be making geometric changes to the intersections at:
- 24 Street S.W.
- Oakmoor Drive S.W.
- Oakbriar Close S.W.
- Brookpark Boulevard S.W.
- Palliser Drive S.W./Braeside Drive S.W.
The project is coordinated with other planned work in the area, including traffic signal upgrades at 24 Street S.W. and Palliser Drive S.W., and water main repairs at 24 Street S.W.
Southland Dr S.W. reconstruction is just one of several roads being repaved as part of the City’s Annual Paving Program.

Why this work is needed
Upgrading Southland Drive S.W. is part of the City’s Annual Paving Program, which focuses on keeping Calgary’s roads safe, reliable, and in good condition. Southland Dr S.W. roadway west of 14 St S.W. is structurally deficient, and the full length of the roadway from Oakmoor Way S.W. to Elbow Dr S.W. is showing signs of wear including cracking, rutting, and patching worsening in the intersections.
This project will:
- Restore the road structure for long-term performance
- Reduce future maintenance needs
- Bring infrastructure up to current standards
- Improve safety and accessibility for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users
