The City is planning to build a temporary fire station in Rockland Park to meet the immediate emergency response needs of this rapidly growing northwest community, including both Rockland Park, Haskayne, and surrounding areas adjacent to the Bearspaw Reservoir. Temporary stations are used in new communities because they can be built faster, are smaller than permanent stations, and require less funding.

The fire station will be a residential house-style station based on an existing model home utilized by the Developer elsewhere in the neighbourhood, with modifications to support the fire department’s operational needs (tarmac leading to the garage-style apparatus bay, staff and visitor parking stalls, waste and recycling area, etc). 

Temporary stations allow the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) to meet Council‑directed seven‑minute first‑engine response targets while long‑term funding and planning for a permanent station are underway. The temporary station will remain in place until a permanent fire station is funded and constructed. The temporary station will sit on four lots that will be combined for the project, located at 656, 652, 648 and 644 Rowmont Boulevard NW. When the station is no longer needed, those lots will be split back into their original residential parcels. The tarmac, garage-style apparatus bay, parking stalls, and other site elements will be demolished to allow future homes to be built on those re-divided lots. The house-style portion of the station is intended to remain, to be decommissioned as a fire station, renovated as required and sold to a future residential homeowner.

Construction cost is estimated to be $3.7M. The total project cost excluding land purchase is estimated to be $6.5M.

The Rockland Park Temporary Fire Station will:

• Provide faster fire and emergency response times for Rockland Park and Haskayne, helping meet Council‑directed seven‑minute first‑engine targets.
• Ensure residents receive timely emergency services as the community continues to grow.
• Fit within Rockland Park architectural guidelines and maintain neighbourhood character.
