The project will seek funding in November 2026 during the 2027-30 budget deliberations.
Detailed design
Construction of the improvements begins in phases.
Project is live for Calgarians to use and enjoy.
Location
This project is located in Ward 6, neighbouring the communities of Wildwood, Westgate, Strathcona Park, Coach Hill and Patterson Heights.
Consultation and engagement
From spring 2024 to spring 2025 The City conducted a functional planning study to develop the recommended plan for these improvements. This study was shaped with public feedback during an Engagement process that was conducted in four phases.
Public feedback was essential for creating a plan that aligns with community needs. For more details on the public engagement portion of this project visit Engage.Calgary.ca/SarceeBowStudy.
Budget and funding
The improvements are not yet funded for detailed design or construction.
The project will seek funding in the upcoming 2027-30 budget cycle, in November 2026. The project is estimated to cost $336.5 million.
Frequently asked questions
When will construction begin?
- The project is not currently funded for construction or detailed design. The project is seeking funding in the upcoming 2027-2030 budget cycle.
- If construction funding is approved in the future, the project would proceed through the following steps:
- Detailed design: once construction funds are approved, the approved plan enters the preliminary and detailed design development phase, which includes developing detailed plans and construction.
- Construction: a contractor is engaged, and construction begins once construction funds are approved.
In what order will the improvements be implemented?
Due to the scope and complexity of the project, the improvements are anticipated to be implemented in four phases in the following order:
- Edworthy Park connection - Bow Trail S.W. to Spruce Drive S.W.
- Bow Trail S.W. widening
- Sarcee Trail S.W. & Bow Trail S.W. interchange
- Sarcee Trail S.W. widening
How much will the improvements cost?
Based on preliminary cost estimates the project is estimated to cost $336.5 million. If the project gets funded, we will move into detailed design, where we will plan specific features in more detail and determine a more accurate construction cost.
Did the community help shape the planned improvements?
- The recommended plan was developed with input from public engagement. Over the course of all engagement phases there were more than 2,500 online participants and 800 in-person/virtual participants.
