Calgary Firefighters Toy Association

The Calgary Firefighters Toy Association is a volunteer member-led organization that accepts donation of new unused toys for the annual Community Kids Christmas event. Although not operated by the Calgary Fire Department, the department supports the association by allowing members of the public to drop off individual donations of these new, unwrapped toys for the children’s party at all fire stations around the city.

The Calgary Firefighters Toy Association was first launched in 1945 when firefighters painstakingly cleaned and repaired used toys to donate to children in need. Since then, Calgary firefighters have volunteered their time to keep this tradition alive for children whose families are experiencing financial challenges. Active and retired Calgary firefighters fundraising up to $50,000 each year for this volunteer-run event.

While the toy repair program is no longer, firefighters still work diligently throughout the year sorting and wrapping gifts, fundraising and planning to bring a special day filled with holiday joy to the kids. The annual Children's Christmas event is still a highlight of the holiday season for many Calgary families that experience financial difficulties and also brings joy to the firefighters involved!

With the help of Calgary's two public school boards and various social service agencies, more than 1,800 families are invited to attend this very special Christmas event. Once the guests arrive, they are treated to; a variety of interactive events, lunch, live entertainment and an exciting visit from Santa Clause. All children under 12 receive a gift from Santa as well as a bag of seasonal treats.

Donations can be made either as a cash donation or a donation of a toy that is appropriate for the age ranges that we service ( ages 0 – 12). Cash donations can be made through our website and follow the links. Donations of new unused toys can be dropped off at any Calgary Fire Station around the city.
