Haskayne Legacy Park development

Traditional western ranchlands come alive with spectacular mountain and prairie views at the Haskayne Legacy Park , located at the northwestern edge of the city of Calgary. The park is adjacent to the Bearspaw Reservoir with the Bow River to the west and south. The Calgary Municipal boundary and Rocky View County are to the north and east of Haskayne Legacy Park.

The northwest boundary of the park borders Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, and protects 14 km of the Bow River and Bearspaw Reservoir’s banks which is approximately 1,300 hectares of wetlands, native grasslands, rolling hills, wooded areas, and trails.

Together, Haskayne Legacy Park and Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park will create a continuous and integrated greenway along the Bearspaw Reservoir. The park will provide a key connection to the regional pathway system and the Trans-Canada Trail that will connect Calgary to Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park and the town of Cochrane.

The majority of the 360-acre property was purchased under the ENMAX Parks Program, with the final purchase made possible by the kind generosity of the Haskayne family who personally donated over $5 million in land toward the new park, as well as matching funds towards the pavilion building which is currently under construction.

Construction update

Planning and design for preliminary development of the park is complete and construction is currently underway with completion of the first phase anticipated by Fall 2020.

Work will include planting of over 1000 trees and 2600 shrubs, hard plaza and sidewalk construction, parking lot development, irrigation installation, pathway development including a pathway connection to Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, boardwalk viewpoints along the reservoir and a new park pavilion and pergola space.
