If you’re a senior who can live independently—meaning you’re able to manage daily activities on your own—you only need to submit one application. You’ll be considered for vacancies at multiple seniors’ housing properties in Calgary. This makes it easier for you to find a place that fits your needs.

Where you can look for rental listings:

What you need to quality for affordable housing in Alberta
To qualify for most affordable housing programs in Alberta, including in Calgary, you must meet three basic requirements:
1. Status in Canada
You must be one of the following:
- A Canadian citizen
- A Permanent Resident (PR)
- A Refugee (with official documentation)
People with temporary visas or no status are not eligible.
2. Income Limits
Your total household income (before taxes) must be below certain limits. These vary depending on how many people are in your household and how many bedrooms you need. For Calgary Housing Company, the annual income limits are approximately:
- 1 Bedroom: $65,000
- 2 Bedroom: $77,000
- 3 Bedroom: $85,000
- 4+ Bedroom: $96,500
3. Asset Limits
Your total household assets must be under $25,000 to quality for most affordable housing options in Calgary. This includes:
- Cash, savings, or investments
- RRSPs, RESPs, and other accounts
- Property equity (if selling a home)
- Business ownership or valuable collectibles
One vehicle and basic personal belongings are not counted.
