Shouldice Athletic Park Irrigation System Upgrades & Field Remediation

We are pleased to announce that irrigation replacement and outfield remediation on ball diamonds 3 to 6 at Shouldice Athletic Park is complete and the fields are available for booking as of July 1, 2017.

Upgrades and repair work are a necessary part of athletic park maintenance. This work will enhance player experiences and safety, improve the efficiency of our operations and protect the fields for future generations of athletes.

Field remediation

An assessment of the outfields for ball diamonds 3 – 6 revealed the need for remediation to improve surface quality and player safety. The scope of work included removing exposed tree roots from the playing surface, installing a root barrier system around the perimeter of the fields, replacement of the outfield fence, leveling the "lip" between the infields and outfields and resodding the fields. Minor touch up and improvements will take place throughout the two-year warranty period as the natural grass outfield settles naturally over time.

Irrigation system upgrades

A review of existing irrigation systems identified the ball diamonds at Shouldice Athletic Park as being among those sites in the most urgent need of upgrades. Upgrades improve the operating efficiency of the park and help protect the quality of the fields for future use. This work reduces the potential for field downtime caused by system failures.
