Awaken Garden Collective is helping the Community of Bowness come together around local gardening, offering access to its community garden and sharing gardening skills, so that everyone in the community can access healthy food.
Northstar Clean Technologies is helping keep asphalt roof shingles out of Calgary’s landfills by reprocessing them at its new Empower Calgary facility in Rocky View County.
Calgary Seed Library is making it easy for Calgarians to get seeds to grow food, plants and trees with its community seed library and educational workshops.
Forests for Calgary is helping grow Calgary’s tree canopy by planting “tiny forests,” using the Miyawaki method, which helps them grow faster than they would naturally.
Goodwill @ Work is helping Calgarians with disabilities or other barriers find meaningful work, by offering them chances to do contract work for local companies or helping Goodwill refurbish donated goods.
The West Runway Rehabilitation Project (WRRP) is helping Calgary’s oldest runway, Calgary International Airport’s Runway 17R-35L (west runway), operate safely through sustainable renovations and upgrades.

Application criteria
Projects or programs submitted need to meet the following guidelines:
- Must clearly demonstrate a direct climate and/or environmental benefit for Calgary, such as:
- climate resilience
- renewable or low-carbon energy
- greenhouse gas emission reductions
- carbon capture
- naturalization
- Completed in the past five years or is currently in progress.
- Have little or no direct involvement from The City of Calgary.
- The City is not providing funding, expertise, regulatory support or otherwise actively assisting with the project.
- Funded, organized or led by an individual, commercial entity, non-profit or non-government organization, institution (including academic institution) or community organization that resides in Calgary.
- If your project or program benefits Indigenous communities in or near Calgary, or supports equity-seeking groups, please include this in your application.
