Hotchkiss temporary fire station
Project update - March 2026
We are currently in the development permit stage for this project. As the project progresses, we will share additional information and updates. Please check back regularly for the latest details.
Project scope
The City is planning to build a temporary fire station in Hotchkiss to meet the immediate emergency response needs of this rapidly growing southeast community, including both Hotchkiss and Sora at Hotchkiss. Temporary stations are used in new communities because they can be built faster, are smaller than permanent stations, and require less funding.
The temporary fire station will be designed to look like a residential home, using an existing model home already built by the developer elsewhere in the neighbourhood. The design will include necessary modifications to support fire department operations, such as access to the apparatus bay, on‑site parking, and waste and recycling areas.
Temporary stations allow the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) to meet Council‑directed seven‑minute first‑engine response targets while long‑term funding and planning for a permanent station are underway. The temporary station will remain in place until a permanent fire station is funded and built. The temporary station will sit on three lots that were combined for the project, located at 176 Hotchkiss Manor SE. When the station is no longer needed, those lots will be split back into their original residential parcels. The tarmac, garage-style apparatus bay, parking stalls, and other site elements will be demolished to allow future homes to be built on those re-divided lots. When the building is no longer needed as a fire station, it will be renovated as required and sold as a residential home.
Project budget
Construction cost is estimated to be $3M. The total project cost including land purchase is estimated to be $6.5M.
Project benefits
The Hotchkiss Fire Station will:
- Provide faster fire and emergency response times for Hotchkiss and Sora at Hotchkiss, helping meet Council‑directed seven‑minute first‑engine targets.
- Ensure residents receive timely emergency services as the community continues to grow.
- Be designed to fit the look and character of the Hotchkiss neighbourhood.
