Cranston Avenue S.E. - Mobility safety improvements

In the summer of 2024, temporary traffic calming measures will be put in place to improve safety along Cranston Avenue S.E. These safety improvements are being considered in response to findings from a recent safety and operational review looking at operational speed and collisions in the area. The changes are expected to reduce incidents and near-misses involving motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Preliminary inputs for the proposed changes were gathered from the recent Community Speed Watch, Ward 12 councillor’s office and 311 feedback from the citizens living in the community of Cranston.

Proposed changes include:

  • Installation of temporary curb extensions along the corridor to ensure that this corridor operates as one lane each direction.
  • Reducing the posted speed limit to 40 km/h.
  • Crosswalk enhancements.
  • Painting shoulder lines along the corridor to reduce the width of travel lanes.

Project timeline

  • July 2024: Finalize the design
  • July-August 2024: Temporary installations
