Project overview
We are continuing to make improvements along the Centre Street/Harvest Hills Boulevard corridor, Calgary’s busiest transit corridor. More than 30,000 people use it every day. From downtown to 160 avenue north, these upgrades help you spend less time in traffic, count on your trip and move through the city more easily.

The MAX Green bus rapid transit improvements run from downtown along Centre Street to 160 Ave. N.E.

Latest updates
Beginning in the Fall of 2026, the next milestone of improvements will include:
- Improvements at the 78 Avenue N.E. bus loop
A better bus loop layout and an improved break space for transit operators, supporting smoother service throughout the day. - Improved break space at North Pointe Transit Terminal
Improving the break space for Transit Operators in the Terminal next to Country Village Way N.E.
Further work planned for 2027 includes:
- New bus-only lane from 28 Avenue N.E. to 38 Avenue N.E.
Giving buses their own space through a busy stretch, helping reduce delays and improve travel times. - A continuous bus-only lane through the 42–43 Avenue area
Creating a longer, uninterrupted section where buses can move and enter the existing bus-only lane more reliably. - Changes at the McKnight Boulevard intersection
Reconfiguring the intersection and extending the northbound bus-only lane to 54 Avenue, so buses can move through more efficiently. - Bus lane upgrades near Beddington Trail
Extending north and southbound bus lanes to and from existing bus gates and adjusting traffic lanes to help buses move through this area more easily. - Extended bus-only lanes (Country Hills Boulevard to Panatella Boulevard)
This long stretch of bus-only lane helps keep transit moving in a growing area. A new left-turn lane into the North Pointe Park and Ride will make it easier and safer for transit accessing the North Pointe Terminal.

Timeline
We’ve been making improvements to transit along Centre Street since 2020. Click into the timeline below to learn about each phase of improvement.
Building new bus-only lanes, creating safer crossings, making key intersection changes and improving break spaces for Transit Operators.
Built eight new bus stations from 28 Avenue to Country Hills Boulevard. Built new platforms and shelters, bus-only lanes, intersection improvements and landscaping.
Completed engineering design for short-term improvements.
Completed North Pointe Park & Ride enhancements.
Completed North Central Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) functional planning study. Conducted public engagement to help inform short, medium and long-term improvements.
Construction
Construction may begin later this year in limited areas and resume in 2027. More detailed information will be shared in the spring of 2027.

Construction is part of building a better city, but we know reliable access and safe travel matter to our community. We are working hard to reduce impacts to people and businesses wherever possible.

Outreach and engagement
