Fire hydrant flow test
Requesting a fire hydrant flow test
The City of Calgary is currently reviewing the fire flow testing process to ensure accurate and consistent results. During this review, we are unable to provide historical hydrant flow data but can supply hydraulic modelling results.
- For a sprinkler system design, submit a service request and include the following information in the “Additional Details” section of the form. A staff member will contact you with the hydraulic modelling results.
- Address
- Tie-in location
- Design flow and minimum pressure requirement at tie-in location to public system

Water - Fire Hydrant Flow Test>
City of Calgary testing on fire hydrants
We conduct various flow tests annually to identify potential problems and to make sure there is adequate water pressure and volume in the system.
Volume issues can be caused by closed valves and/or deterioration of aging pipes. The levels of residual and static pressure are often measured during the flow test and are good indicators to the conditions of the water system.
