Impounded dogs

The dogs listed below have been impounded by Animal & Bylaw Services because they were running at large in their communities, a violation under The Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw. A dog running at large creates safety issues for the public and for the dog. These impounded dogs are presently at our Animal Service Centre at 2201 Portland Street S.E.

Impounded dogs with identification, such as a licence tag, a legible tattoo or a readable microchip with up-to-date information, are held for ten (10) days. Impounded dogs without identification are held for four (4) days. If a dog is not claimed by their owners within this time, they undergo health and behavioural assessments and if deemed adoptable, they become available for adoption by the public. We then list them on our adoptable dog web page and our City of Calgary Pets Mobile Application (a free download which allows Calgarians to view impounded and adoptable cats and dogs on their mobile device).

Think one of these dogs might be your lost dog?

If one of the impounded or adoptable dogs matches the description of your dog, call 311 (from within Calgary) or (403) 268-CITY (2489) (from outside of Calgary) or visit our Animal Service Centre.
