What we heard

You’ve said you want safe buildings and public spaces, and risk reduction and compliance to legislation are important. Your concerns about building fire safety are increasing. Our customers sometimes find fire and life safety design challenging, with regards to regulations by code authorities, designing for interoperability and integration of systems, codes and standards, and fire education; Fire Inspections & Enforcement is here to help Calgarians navigate and understand fire safety and compliance.

Council direction

Council has directed us in a number of priorities including:
  • reduce risk to improve the safety of Calgarians (including seniors and the disabled)
  • build safe, accessible and inclusive neighbourhoods and public spaces
  • make it easier to build development that meet our Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Calgary Transportation Plan (CTP)
  • minimize the cost of growth while maximizing housing choice and affordability
  • improve the protection and enhancement of heritage assets
  • focus on how services are delivered, instead of why
  • maintain the fire safety of existing affordable (multi-family) housing
