Spring Cleaning Across Ward 1
Spring has arrived, and so have cleaning initiatives across Ward 1.
Street cleaning continues this month and is set to wrap up in mid-June. For more information about when your street will be cleaned, please visit calgary.ca/sweep.
Community clean up events are also back until September! These events give residents a simple way to get rid of unusable household items and helps keep our communities looking their best. For the full schedule, please visit calgary.ca/cleanups.
You can also utilize Calgary’s Household Hazardous Waste program! In Ward 1, the Varsity Firestation offers hazardous waste disposal. For more information, please visit https://www.calgary.ca/waste/residential/household-hazardous-waste-drop-off-program.html
Supporting Residents During Construction
Stage B of the BSFM Replacement Project began on May 11, 2026. Construction will span from 73 Street NW to 87 Street NW, with a possible extension to the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant. An open-cut method will be used.
I know construction can be disruptive and I am focused on ensuring residents have the support and information they need.
Resources are available at the Community Resource Centre at the Bowness Community Association. For questions, please email BSFMProject@calgary.ca.
Residents and businesses in Bowness, along the feeder main alignment, should anticipate more mail drop updates, construction notices and info sessions. Residents and businesses that have not already done so, can sign up to receive email updates.
Due to the accelerated pace of the BSFM project, construction details remain subject to change. For the most recent updates, please visit https://www.calgary.ca/planning/water/bearspaw-feeder-main/replacement-project.html
Getting Results on Roads and Infrastructure
I recently joined Mayor Farkas in kicking off the 2026 Pothole Blitz in Bowness!
With warmer weather upon us, crews are working hard across the city repairing roads, sidewalks, and pathways.
I also toured facilities across the mobility department to learn about what goes into managing traffic, responding to emergencies, and repairing roads across the city.
If you notice potholes or areas needing repair, please contact 311 and let my office know. Ensuring communities have safe and reliable infrastructure is a priority for me. Your feedback is integral to driving where action is needed most.
Supporting Initiatives in Ward 1
My team and I recently visited the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society in Ward 1.
Calgary Wildlife helps rehabilitate injured and orphaned animals while also providing educational programs about urban wildlife and ecosystems.
If you find injured or orphaned wildlife in your community, this organization is an amazing resource. For more information, please visit https://www.calgarywildlife.org/contact
Listening to Residents at City Hall
At the last Regular Meeting of Council, Council voted to pass my amendment recommending that Council send the City’s proposed flood bylaws back to administration for further community engagement.
These proposed bylaws and land use changes would heavily impact residents in Bowness. After hearing from residents, it is clear that better engagement is needed before this can move to the next stages.
I will continue to listen to Ward 1 residents and advocate for our communities. If you will be impacted by these flood bylaws, please consider filling out this short survey: https://forms.gle/ubfCEi4XW4rWfZgN8.
Representing Ward 1 Across the City
Recently, I joined my colleagues outside of Council chambers at the annual Jane’s Walk at Nose Creek Park for a wonderful educational experience organized by Councillor Andrew Yule.
I also attended the Government of Alberta’s announcement of the Alberta Music Commission. I am glad to see the creation of a commission that will champion Alberta’s music industry.
As a member of the Calgary Arts Development Authority (CADA) Board, I attended the Mayor’s Annual Celebration of the Arts. The show, hosted by CADA and the Mayor, celebrated local arts awards recipients and showcased the excellent artistic talent Calgary has to offer.
Serving you at City Hall and in the Community
