What’s Happening in Our City
As we head into the Winter season, shorter days, snow, ice, and changing weather can make it harder for pedestrians and drivers to see each other. Drivers can help by slowing down, leaving extra travel time, and choosing safe, legal places to stop or park. Learn more at calgaryparking.com/safeschools.
Starting November 10, Calgarians can review the proposed 2027-2030 Budget, submit written comments, or register to speak to Council at Public Submissions, which begin November 23. Input from Calgarians is a critical part of the budget process and helps inform Council’s decisions. Learn more at calgary.ca/budget.
Planning and Development Services is conducting a Planning and Development Public Service Satisfaction Survey to better understand the experience of Community Associations and how information from The City related to local planning is used. Complete the survey at calgary.questionpro.ca/CalgaryPlanningSurvey until December 31, 2026.
Supporting Residents During Construction
Construction on Stage B of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main (BSFM) Replacement Project is expected to continue through November 2026.
The new replacement pipe will run from 73 Street N.W. to 89 Street N.W., where it will connect to the existing steel pipe leading to the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant. Extending the pipe to 89 Street N.W. helps avoid future construction and reduces future community disruptions. An open-cut method will be used.
Sidewalk Improvements are coming to 34th Avenue as part of the BSFM replacement project! Sidewalks along 34 Avenue NW between 73 Street and 89 Street will be widened from 1.2 metres to 1.5 metres. A short section between 73 Street and 77 Street will remain at its current 1.2-metre width to maintain consistency with the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street, which is not being reconstructed as part of this project.
The wider sidewalks will improve accessibility and pedestrian safety while aligning with the standards used in newer communities.
Calgary will be under Stage 4 water restrictions beginning on November 4, 2026. Restrictions are expected to last four weeks and will apply to all City of Calgary Water Utility customers. The restrictions are in place to connect the new Bearspaw South Feeder Main to the existing water system and to ensure the City’s water supply remains stable.
To help save water during Stage 4 water restrictions, only run dishwashers and laundry machines when full, flush toilets only when necessary, and keep showers under 3 minutes. Thank you to everyone for doing your part to help Calgary save water as we finish the critical Bearspaw South Feeder Main replacement.
Due to the accelerated pace of the BSFM project, construction details remain subject to change. For the most recent updates, please visit https://www.calgary.ca/planning/water/bearspaw-feeder-main/replacement-project.html.
In the Community
This past month, I met with community members to hear their visions for Ward 1.
Thank you to the Al Amal School in Royal Vista, the Arrive at Crestmont Townhomes, the Royal Oak Estates Homeowners Association, the Rockland Park Community Association, and the Red Haus Condominium Complex for meeting with me in your respective communities.
Hearing directly from residents in the community is critical to my job as your Ward 1 representative. I look forward to advocating on behalf of the community at City Hall. To invite me to visit your community or event, please email Ward1@calgary.ca.
I also had the pleasure of welcoming grade six students from W.O. Mitchell School to City Hall earlier this month. It was wonderful chatting with students about my job as a City Councillor and officially recognizing the class in the Community Development Committee. Opportunities like this showcase that the future is bright for up and coming students.
