Supporting Residents During Construction

Construction on Stage B of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main Replacement Project will continue into Autumn. Construction is expected to span from 73 Street NW to 87 Street NW, with a possible extension to the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant. An open-cut method will be used.

Earlier in the Summer, I visited the construction site in Bowness, and was very impressed at the efficiency and care of this project. I also spoke with residents impacted by the construction to better understand how they can be supported.

I know construction can be disruptive and I am focused on ensuring residents have the support and information they need.

Resources are available at the Community Resource Centre at the Bowness Community Association. For questions, please email BSFMProject@calgary.ca.

Residents and businesses in Bowness along the feeder main alignment should anticipate more mail drop updates, construction notices and info sessions.

Also be sure to check Community Appreciation Days hosted by the BSFM team!

  • Kids and family drop-in with a bouncy house and ice cream on Monday, August 24 from 4-6 PM at the Bowness Scout and Guide Hall.

Out in the Community

This month, I enjoyed participating in the annual Calgary Dragon Boat Charity Race for Calgary Meals on Wheels. I rowed alongside some of my Council colleagues, other elected officials, and community leaders! I am proud to report that we came in second place by a sixth of a second. As always, it is wonderful to see the sense of community and support for local charities at this event.

A couple of times this summer, my team and I knocked on doors in Bowness to discuss with residents proposed changes to the city’s flood bylaws. These proposed bylaws and land use changes would heavily impact residents in Bowness. Feedback from residents led me to advocate for better engagement before this can move to the next stages. I will keep an eye on the requested engagement when it begins this fall.

I will continue to listen to Ward 1 residents and advocate for our communities. If you will be impacted by these flood bylaws, please consider filling out this short survey: https://forms.gle/ubfCEi4XW4rWfZgN8.
