Ward 2 - Jennifer Wyness

144 Avenue North Rapid Transit: Moving Into the Final Phase of Public Engagement

Over the past year, our office has heard from many Ward 2 residents about the need for better transit connections in the north. With ongoing growth in Symons Valley and the massive community expansion underway in Glacier Ridge, it’s clear that our transportation network needs to keep pace, not just for today, but for the next generation of residents who will call this area home.

That’s why the 144 Avenue North Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Functional Planning Study has been such an important project for our office to follow and support. Earlier this year, the City completed Phase 2 of the study, where residents helped shape concept options for routes, station locations, and walking and wheeling connections. That feedback, combined with technical analysis, led to a recommended corridor: the Crowfoot alignment.

This recommended plan is now ready for public review, and we’re heading into the final round of engagement.

What This Project Means for Ward 2

The 144 Avenue N BRT is part of Calgary Transit’s long-term RouteAhead strategy and is meant to deliver a reliable, frequent, affordable transit option that connects our growing north communities. Once built, this corridor will link residents to major LRT lines (Red, Green, and Blue), the future Symons Valley Transit Terminal, and key destinations across the city. It will also strengthen our active travel network, creating safer, more direct pathway and bikeway connections.

As communities like Glacier Ridge and the Symons Valley area continue to grow, projects like this will help keep people moving where they need to go daily, whether by transit, on foot, or on wheels. Completing this study is also an essential step in getting the project “shovel-ready” should funding become available in the future.

We’re Now in Phase 3: Your Final Chance to Provide Feedback

Phase 3 is the last opportunity for residents to weigh in before the plan is finalized. The City is now sharing the recommended BRT route, station locations, and pathway connections, along with the technical and community input that shaped the design.

Here’s how you can get involved:

Looking Ahead

Our office will continue working closely with City Administration to ensure Ward 2 residents can meaningfully shape the future of this corridor. Your feedback helps identify priorities, highlight local considerations, and make sure the final plan reflects our community’s real needs.

Whether you’re a transit rider, driver, daily commuter, cyclist, or parent trying to get your kids to activities, this is your chance to help shape a project that will serve our area for decades to come.
