I am writing to share some news and updates about The City of Calgary’s Noise Barrier Program, which will help make our neighbourhoods quieter and more comfortable for everyone. Many of you have written to our office for more information about what is currently planned in Ward 2, so read on to learn more.

As we move through February, I want to share a few timely reminders that affect households across Ward 2. From property assessments to winter habits that protect our rivers, there are a couple of simple steps residents can take right now that make a real difference.

I want to make residents aware that the Calgary Police Service is investigating a series of four residential break and enters reported this month. We are sharing more information with you so you and your neighbours are prepared and know what to do to help prevent break-ins.

The Symons Valley Centre is a major City-led project located on seven acres of City-owned land at 251 Sage Hill Blvd NW, designed to serve the growing communities of Kincora, Sherwood, Sage Hill, Nolan Hill, and Evanston. The Centre will deliver long-awaited community amenities, including a new public library, alongside housing opportunities, and future transit access.

As of today, all water restrictions in Calgary have been lifted. With restrictions lifted, facilities are returning to normal operations. Read more for further information.

Over the past few months, many residents from Evanston and Ambleton have contacted my office with serious concerns about the intersection at 144 Avenue and Evanston Hill/ Ambleton Street. The City has now provided updated information that I want to share publicly so residents know what has happened to date and what is planned next.

Over the past year, our office has heard from many Ward 2 residents about the need for better east–west transit connections in the north. With ongoing growth in Symons Valley and the massive community expansion underway in Glacier Ridge, it’s clear that our transportation network needs to keep pace.

On November 11, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have defended our freedoms — and to express our gratitude to those who continue to serve today.

As we head into the colder months, green cart pickup will shift to the winter schedule. Starting the first week of November, collection will happen every other week instead of weekly.

This past week, we joined the Director of Mobility, Troy McLeod, for an on-site visit at the corner of Arbour Lake Way and Arbour Lake Drive to review the sinkhole that has been an ongoing concern for residents.
