Today, the Government of Canada announced a $29-million contribution toward the first stage of the North Calgary Water Servicing Project. This is welcome news for Calgary and for the growing communities in our city’s Northwest.

August was a quieter month across Ward 2. Kids were on break, council was out of session, and many of us enjoyed a slower pace. As we head into September, the rhythm is shifting: students are back in school, we’re back into the full flow of everyday life, and City Council is returning to serious work.

As we head into September, Calgary Transit is rolling out important service changes across our north-central communities—including updates that affect Route 503 (Sage Hill Express) and the former Route 735 (Diefenbaker / Sage Hill / Kincora).

As students return to classrooms across Calgary, our streets and school areas become busier. More children and families will be walking, wheeling, cycling and driving near schools, especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.

July was a busy and memorable month across our community. From Stampede celebrations to local events, our team had the chance to connect with many of you, whether it was over a game of cornhole or handing out bubbles at neighbourhood gatherings. I always appreciate these opportunities to hear your perspectives and spend time together in community.

Every summer, we hope for sunny skies and warm evenings. But in Calgary, we also know that with summer comes the risk of severe weather. Hail season runs from June to September, and many of us remember all too well the devastating storm that struck on August 5, 2024.

The message from my office on e-mobility in Calgary is straightforward: most electric mobility devices are not currently legal for use in public spaces. This includes private e-scooters and electric dirt bikes. With the exception of pedal-equipped e-bikes that meet provincial regulations, these devices are not permitted on public roads, pathways, or sidewalks in the City of Calgary.

Over the past couple of weeks, information has been circulating online about a stormwater pond in Evanston that appears to be full of Prussian carp. For residents, that has raised real concern, and for good reasons.

Happy Canada Day Ward 2! As we kick off July, there’s plenty to celebrate across our community, including Stampede and a number of other great events happening throughout the month. This newsletter also includes local updates and ways to get involved in community life over the weeks ahead.

We have recently received an increase in reports and concerns from residents in Kincora regarding coyote activity in the area, including several encounters near pathways and ravines where coyotes are denned. While coyotes are a natural part of our urban environment, this recent activity has understandably caused concern for many families, walkers, and dog owners in the community.

As Calgary comes alive with the spirit of the Stampede once again, I want to wish everyone in Ward 2 a joyful and safe celebration. It is a true pleasure to take part in this longstanding tradition, which has brought our city together for over 100 years, celebrating western heritage, community pride, and shared experiences.

This Saturday, Ward 2 is coming alive with community spirit. Residents across the ward are invited to take part in nine different events happening throughout the day, including several Neighbour Day celebrations and city-wide initiatives like All Sport One Day.
