2026 Spring Clean Up Program Set to Begin in Calgary

The City of Calgary’s annual Spring Clean‑up Program is set to begin next week, with residential community sweeping starting shortly after. This program plays an important role in keeping our streets clean, safe, and functioning properly after winter.

Due to the heavy snow we received between April 15–16, some community sweeping dates scheduled for April 20 may be postponed. I encourage you to check for updates before your community’s scheduled date.

What’s new this year:

This year’s Spring Clean‑up Program includes a few key features designed to improve efficiency and communication.

Daytime sweeping and parking restrictions
Crews will be sweeping communities Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Parking bans are only in effect when signage with specific dates is posted. Signs are placed at community entrance points and major intersections to notify residents of upcoming sweeping.

Set community schedules
Each community has a specific sweeping date scheduled in advance. If delays occur due to severe weather, equipment issues, or other operational factors, affected communities will be rescheduled toward the end of the program, later in June.

Parking enforcement
Parking enforcement is conducted in partnership with Calgary Parking. Vehicles that are not moved during a posted parking ban may receive a ticket. Planning ahead and moving vehicles on sweeping day helps crews complete the work efficiently and avoids unnecessary fines.

Missed debris
If debris is left behind because a vehicle or cart was not moved, sweeping crews do not typically return to that location. Residents can help by sweeping remaining gravel, dust, and rocks into the gutter or collecting it in garbage bags. Heavy debris should be double‑bagged. Loose debris should not be placed directly into black carts.

How to find your sweeping date

The City is sharing Spring Clean‑up information through several channels. The most reliable and up‑to‑date source is calgary.ca/sweep, where residents can find:

  • A sweeping date lookup tool by address
  • An online map showing live progress and scheduling
  • Email and text notifications
  • Program details and frequently asked questions
  • The RoadBot virtual agent for quick answers

Residents are encouraged to check their specific home address, as sweeping dates can vary within a community.

Why spring sweeping matters

Spring Clean‑up is about more than appearance. It supports several important citywide goals:
Removing debris helps keep gravel and dust out of storm drains and river systems.
Cleaner roads improve safety for people walking, cycling, and driving.
Reducing dust helps limit airborne particles and keeps neighbourhoods healthier.

Community schedules and updates

Some communities have multiple sweeping dates for operational reasons, and schedules may change as conditions evolve. Sweeping areas can also overlap ward boundaries.

Here is the planned schedule by community for this year, pending changes:

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, residents should continue to check calgary.ca/sweep leading up to their scheduled date.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as crews work through the Spring Clean‑up Program. A little planning goes a long way in helping this program run smoothly for everyone.
