Ward 2 - Jennifer Wyness

February 17, 2026: Snow Update for Ward 2

Calgary is experiencing another round of winter weather, with up to 20 cm of snow expected today. City crews are actively responding under Calgary’s priority‑based snow plan, and we want to make sure Ward 2 residents know what to expect and how to report issues.

What the City Is Doing

While snow is falling, crews work around the clock to keep Calgary moving safely by focusing on high‑volume routes first. In and around Ward 2, this includes major corridors such as Crowchild Trail, Shaganappi Trail, and other key commuter and transit routes.

Once snowfall stops, the City’s “snow clock” starts:

  • First 18 hours: Crews focus on Calgary’s busiest roads and downtown routes.
  • 18–36 hours: Work shifts to major community roads, transit routes, bus routes, and signalized intersections.
  • After 36 hours: Crews address trouble spots, reduce snow and ice barriers at intersections, and level ruts in residential areas as needed.

Calgary Transit has also activated city‑wide snow detours to reduce delays and stuck buses. School bus routes are not affected.

Pedestrian Safety and Sidewalk Clearing

The City clears about 10% of Calgary’s sidewalks, including those next to City‑owned properties, pedestrian bridges, LRT platforms, and high‑use bus stops.
Property owners and occupants are responsible for clearing snow from their sidewalks within 24 hours after snowfall ends. Keeping sidewalks clear helps everyone move safely, especially seniors, families, and people using mobility aids.

Want to be a good neighbour? Be a Snow Angel! Keep an eye out for neighbours who may need a hand, including seniors and anyone with reduced mobility. If you notice someone struggling to clear their driveway or sidewalk, lending a shovel for a few minutes can make a big difference. Small acts like this help prevent icy conditions and strengthen connections within our communities.

Please remember that while snow may be moved from a public sidewalk onto a public street, it cannot be moved from private property onto public spaces. Under Bylaw 20M88, snow from driveways, parking pads, or private walkways must not be pushed onto the road. Snow also cannot be shoveled into designated wheeling lanes, such as cycle tracks.

Thank you to everyone who clears their sidewalks promptly. These everyday efforts add up and play an important role in keeping Ward 2 safe and accessible during winter weather.

How to Report Issues

If you notice icy conditions, unplowed roads, or problem areas in Ward 2, please report them through 311. These reports help Administration track conditions and prioritize crews where they’re needed most. If your neighbours are experiencing the same issue, encourage them to report it as well.
