February 19, 2026: Snow Update for Ward 2
Calgary is experiencing continued winter conditions, with very cold overnight temperatures and double‑digit windchills expected over the next few days. These conditions can increase the risk of ice forming on roads and sidewalks, particularly at trouble spots such as bridge decks, hills, and intersections.
City crews remain active under Calgary’s priority‑based snow plan, and we want to keep Ward 2 residents informed about what’s happening and how to report issues.
What the City Is Doing
Crews are continuing to follow the City’s snow and ice control priorities:
- Pedestrian infrastructure is the top focus today, with all available hand crews working on:
- Pedestrian overpasses
- Sidewalks next to City‑owned properties
- Designated sections of pathways
- High‑priority bus pads
- Road crews are completing plowing on major routes, including key corridors such as Crowchild Trail, Memorial Drive, and Glenmore Trail.
- Later today and into Thursday afternoon, crews will shift into major community and transit routes, continuing work to improve driving conditions as temperatures remain cold.
More information and real‑time updates are available at calgary.ca/snow.
Calgary Transit Update
Snow detours will remain in effect city‑wide for the Tuesday evening commute. Activating these detours across the city helps reduce the risk of buses becoming stuck and minimizes delays for customers.
- All Calgary Transit school routes remain in place and are not impacted by detours.
- Riders are encouraged to check Calgary Transit’s Snow Detours page for the most up‑to‑date route information and service updates.
Pedestrian Safety & Sidewalk Clearing
Cold temperatures and windchills can quickly turn packed snow into ice. While the City clears about 10% of Calgary’s sidewalks, including those next to City‑owned properties, property owners and occupants are responsible for clearing the remaining 90% within 24 hours after snowfall ends, as required by bylaw.
Clearing sidewalks promptly and applying sand or traction material helps keep neighbours, seniors, families, and people using mobility aids safe during extreme cold.
Be a Snow Angel
If you’re able, consider checking in on neighbours who may need extra support, including seniors or those with reduced mobility. A few minutes of help can go a long way in preventing icy conditions and strengthening community connections.
Please remember:
- Snow may be moved from a public sidewalk onto a public street
- Snow cannot be moved from private property onto public spaces
- Under Bylaw 20M88, snow from driveways, parking pads, or private walkways must not be pushed onto the road
- Snow must not be shoveled into designated wheeling lanes, such as cycle tracks
How to Report Issues
If you notice icy conditions, unplowed areas, or problem spots in Ward 2, please report them through 311. These reports help Administration track conditions and prioritize crews. If multiple neighbours are experiencing the same issue, encourage them to report it as well.
