Ward 2 - Jennifer Wyness

November Newsletter, 2026

Happy November Ward 2!

As October draws to a close, the brisk late-autumn air reminds us that winter is just around the corner, bringing a shift in focus as we move into November. Over the past month, my office had the pleasure of connecting with so many of you across Ward 2, from engaging with residents at our Fall Town Hall at the Ranchlands Community Association to celebrating the season at local community pumpkin events. We also conducted a mobility site visit in Evanston to address pressing traffic safety concerns, celebrated local growth with a ribbon cutting at a new shop in Crowfoot Centre alongside a new playground in Kincora, and proudly sponsored and celebrated National Seniors Day in Ranchlands. Please see the newsletter below for a list of upcoming community events throughout November.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to reach out and engage with our team this past month. Your feedback and insights are invaluable as I advocate for Ward 2, especially as City Council enters heavy budget deliberations this month to set our municipal priorities. My office is always here to assist if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns.

As always, my office is open if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach us at ward2@calgary.ca. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

- Jennifer

City of Calgary Updates

November water restrictions

Starting November 4, city-wide Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions will take effect across Calgary as crews complete the final connection work on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

Under Stage 4, all outdoor water use is strictly prohibited. The City is also asking all residents and businesses to voluntary trim indoor consumption to help ensure an adequate supply for essential needs and emergency services throughout the month:

  • Shorten showers: Aim for 3 minutes or less.
  • Full loads only: Only run your dishwasher and washing machine when completely full.
  • Mindful flushing: Only flush the toilet when necessary.

These temporary restrictions are expected to last approximately three to four weeks. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we finish this critical infrastructure update to secure our water system for the future.

Diwali firework safety

Wishing a very Happy Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas to everyone celebrating in Ward 2 and across Calgary!

As our community gathers to celebrate, we want to share a gentle reminder regarding fireworks safety. Personal fireworks including consumer fireworks, display fireworks, and firecrackers, are strictly prohibited in Calgary due to significant fire and public safety risks.

To help ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday, please keep the following rules in mind:

  • What’s Allowed: Low-hazard novelty items with limited effects, such as birthday cake sparklers and confetti poppers.
  • What’s Prohibited: Consumer fireworks (Roman candles, fountains, mines), display fireworks, firecrackers, and large wedding sparklers without a professional permit.
  • Updated Bylaw Fines: Fines are actively enforced, including $1,000 for discharging or publicly possessing unauthorized fireworks, and $3,000 for illegal sales.

We encourage residents to celebrate by lighting diyas and candles, decorating with festive lights, and sharing in the warmth of community.

To report non-emergency fireworks concerns, contact 311 (under Disturbance and Public Behaviour Concerns). In the event of a fire or immediate emergency, call 911.

Ward 2 Fall Town Hall

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Ranchlands Community Association for our Fall Town Hall. It was a fantastic evening connecting directly with residents and welcoming representatives from the Calgary Police Service, Bylaw Services, Mobility, and the CAO's Office.

We covered a lot of ground during the session, diving into updates on local infrastructure, parks, libraries, and the upcoming budget cycle. A significant portion of the evening focused on neighborhood-level priorities, including traffic safety, school zones, parking concerns, and community safety updates alongside our emergency services. These conversations are invaluable, providing direct insight that helps guide our advocacy at City Hall. Thank you for showing up, sharing your perspectives, and helping us make Ward 2 a better place to live.
