Three new Green Line LRT bridges are on the way

This month brought major progress. We poured bridge decks in Ogden and at Blackfoot Trail, prepared for elevated guideway construction this fall and Council approved a surface route for the Downtown Segment.

Three Bridges You'll Soon See Rising Across Calgary

Some project milestones happen behind the scenes. Others transform Calgary's skyline.

We're excited to share that Aecon has been awarded the Bow River package, launching construction on three major Green Line LRT structures: the Ogden Road Bridge, Bow River Bridge and Deerfoot Trail Bridge, plus a new multi-use pathway connection.

Years of planning are now turning into visible progress. In the years ahead, if you're travelling Deerfoot Trail, exploring nearby pathways or spending time along the Bow River, you'll be able to watch this key piece of the Green Line LRT – SE Project take shape.

This Month in Construction

Elevated guideway work starts this fall

114 Avenue and Barlow Trail SE, Douglas Glen

We've wrapped up site preparation for the 114 Avenue SE elevated guideway (a long bridge that will carry our trains above the road). Our crews have set up work areas and put traffic detours in place to get ready for major construction this fall.

Please take extra care when travelling through the area. Visit our interactive map for the latest updates before you travel.

Two bridges, one clear sign of progress

114 Avenue and Barlow Trail SE, Douglas Glen

Construction continued this month on the LRT bridges at 78 Avenue SE and Blackfoot Trail, including bridge deck work and structural finishing activities. Together, these structures are two of the most visible signs that Green Line is coming to life across the southeast.

Built below to support what’s ahead:

Lynnwood/Millican, Ogden

As part of the Ogden Road Realignment Project, our crew installed an underground stormwater storage system. We also continued work on retaining walls, storm drainage, and utility relocations to support ongoing construction.

This system will support a new paved parking lot at the south end of Pop Davies Athletic Park, with more than 100 stalls and improved lighting, a benefit park users can enjoy right away. It also paves the way for the Lynnwood/Millican Station, and a 200+ stall Park and Ride shared with the park.

Our trains' future home is taking shape

Shepard Industrial Area – 126 Ave SE

Our crews spent September laying the groundwork at the Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF) site, continuing foundations, utilities and retaining walls.

Meanwhile, the building's frame is being made right here in Alberta. Our construction partner, Supreme Steel, is fabricating the structural steel now, with installation planned for spring 2027.
