How is YW supporting vulnerable Calgarian's through these trying times?

Resiliency and nimbleness are key themes right now as things in our city and province are changing daily. YW Calgary’s primary focus continues to be the health and safety of our clients and staff during this unprecedented time. To best support families in Calgary, YW is being innovative in our approach and utilizing technology to continue offering essential services to vulnerable families.

Our Transitional Housing, Community Housing and Crisis Shelters continue to operate and provide critical supports to nearly 200 women and children every day who have nowhere else to turn. We have taken great strides to ensure all our residential spaces are safe, clean and well managed to deal with the challenges of the pandemic.

Most of our programs have adapted service delivery and are now supporting vulnerable Calgarians virtually. Our Child Development Services are creating video content and plans to keep children engaged and provide parents with ongoing tools to manage the unique isolation challenges families are experiencing. Our Domestic Violence Outreach team is using the same tools to connect with women who are at risk of experiencing abuse directly in the community.

Each day we continue to learn new ways of operating and adapting our services to support those who need it now more than ever. We are immensely grateful for our community partners and the collaborations we a part of.

YW is now focused on the recovery stage, balancing new ways of working with daily reminders of the silver linings this experience is providing. In the weeks or months to come and as we start to shift, YW is reimagining how we deliver critical services. We will leverage what we have learned during this time and plan for even stronger service delivery and support for clients going forward.
