Sue Henry – Chief of CEMA
Sue Henry is the Chief of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), a position she has held since 2020.
Chief Henry began her career with The City in 2001 as a firefighter with the Calgary Fire Department, rising to the rank of Assistant Deputy Chief. In 2015, she was appointed Deputy Chief of CEMA, serving as second-in-command before assuming her current leadership role.
As Chief, Sue oversees Calgary’s emergency management operations, ensuring the city is prepared to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. She also leads Canada Task Force 2 (CAN‑TF2), one of six nationally recognized Heavy Urban Search and Rescue (HUSAR) teams.
Chief Henry has played key leadership roles in several major emergency responses, including the 2013 Southern Alberta floods, wildfires in Chuckegg Creek, Fort McMurray, and Slave Lake, flooding in St. John, and The City’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She holds a Master of Science in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University, is a Certified Emergency Manager with the International Association of Emergency Management, and has received numerous honors, including the Medal of Honour for her role in the 2011 Slave Lake wildfires and the Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award from Public Safety Canada.
Born and raised in Calgary, Chief Henry is passionate about long-distance running and is an avid adventure traveler.
