Knowing when to stay or when to go

  • Shelter in place

During an emergency, you may be instructed by local officials to “shelter-in-place”, due to an imminent hazard outside. This means you should head indoors immediately to the nearest safe location and remain there until authorities let you know it’s safe to leave.

Do you have enough food and water for an extended timeframe, as well as any essential medications? Do you have enough food and water for your pets too?

  • Evacuate

During an emergency, you may be instructed by local officials to evacuate. This means there is a serious or immediate threat to you or your property. If an evacuation order is issued, leave the area immediately and follow instructions from local authorities.

If you are instructed to evacuate, do you have a place to go? What essentials will you take with you? What about your pets? Do you have neighbours that need help?
