These are some fun, challenging games using cups that can be found around the house. Adjust or create house rules that fit your family ages and skill levels.

For each challenge, you can decide if you are challenging the clock or challenging each other. Decide if you want to create a point system or focus on completing each challenge.

Cup Challenge #1 - Up and Down

What you need

  • stack of cups (any kind of plastic or paper cups)

How to play

  • Divide your family into 2 teams.
  • Divide the stack of cups into 2 groups. Scatter the cups all over the room, placing half up and half down.
  • Set the timer for one minute.
  • Each team will run around trying to get all of their cups turned up or down.
  • Team with the most cups up or down will win the challenge.

Cup Challenge #2 - Cup Stacking

What you need

  • 10-21 cups

How to play

  • Build a pyramid starting with all of the cups
  • Keep the pyramid standing for 5 seconds
  • Put all of the cups back in one stack

Cup Challenge #3 - Movin' on Up

What you need

  • A stack of cups (one cup needs to be a different colour)

How to play

  • Stack all of the cups together, placing the different coloured cup at the bottom.
  • To begin the challenge, pick up the stack of cups
  • As quickly as they can, move one cup at a time from the top to the bottom of the stack. take the cup from the top and place it at the bottom.
  • Repeat until the cup of a different colour is at the top of the stack.

Cup Challenge #4 - Yank

What you need

  • 4 cups of the same size (colour doesn’t matter)
  • 4 pieces of cardstock or paper (index or recipe card size).

How to play

  • Build a tower of upside-down cups that is 4 cups high, with a recipe card between each cup.
  • Starting at the top cup, remove the index card so the cup falls onto each other in a stack.
  • If your tower falls, restack and start the challenge again.

Cup Challenge #5 - Cup Catch

What you need

  • Stack of cups
  • Empty water bottle

How to play

  • One partner holds the stack of cups facing the other partner a few feet away
  • Throw your cup to your partner. Partner has to try to catch it with the water bottle.
  • More challenge, place the cup on the edge of a table. Flip the cup for your partner to catch with the water bottle.

Cup Challenge #6 - Cup Routine

What you need

  • Each family member needs their own cup
  • Table and chairs
