Musical egg shakers
This is a great sensory play activity to explore and experiment with different sounds.
- Plastic eggs or egg cartons
- Popcorn, Quinoa, Rice, etc.
- Clear tape
Fill the bottom half of each egg with about 1-2 tablespoons of popcorn, quinoa, rice, etc.
Put the top half of the egg on the bottom half and use a small strip of clear tape to seal the egg shut. If using egg cartons, cut egg cartons and place two halves together.
Decorate eggs with stickers.
Take each egg and give it a shake! Notice the different sounds each item makes.
Turn on some music and shake away!
Using their new homemade egg shakers, children can come up with their own relay race activities using large containers, bowls or buckets, a spoon and their bodies.
Encourage them to use different ways to carry their egg from the starting line to a turnaround point, and back again. If the egg is dropped, the children can decide how they must start again.
