Construction update
Exciting park upgrades coming soon
We are getting ready to start Phase 2 of construction in Haskayne Legacy Park. Work is expected to start fall 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in 2026.
What's coming in Phase 2?
We are making several upgrades to the park, including:
- Pathway and Railway Crossing Improvements
- North Swale Pedestrian Bridge
- Haskayne Legacy Park / Glenbow Ranch Gateway Feature
- A new Haskayne Legacy Park Entrance Sign
- Node improvements: nature immersive rest and play nodes

Looking back - Phase 1 construction highlights
Phase 1 park and road construction is complete. This includes:
- Planting thousands of trees and shrubs
- Built a hard plaza, sidewalk, and parking lot
- Added pathways including a regional pathway with boardwalk viewpoints along the north bank of the Bearspaw Reservoir.
- Constructed a new park pavilion building and outdoor gathering space with an overhead pergola, seating, a large communal harvest table, bike racks, and a fireplace.
- Built a public access road, connectingthe park to new communities to the east and by pathway to Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park to the west.
Timeline
- 2015 – Haskayne Legacy park development permits approved
- 2019 – Haskayne Legacy Park construction begins
- 2023 – Haskayne Legacy Park is opened to the public
- 2025 – Haskayne Legacy Park – Phase 2 construction starts
- 2026 – Haskayne Legacy Park – Phase 2 construction expected completion

Please note: The City is proud to partner with Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation who is currently operating programs from the pavilion building. Enquiries to book this facility for a function can be made to experienceglenbow@grpf.ca or 403-851-9053.
Washrooms: Public washrooms are located east of the pavilion building and open during park hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are we adding additional upgrades to the park?
During Phase 1 (completed in fall 2023) some planned features were postponed due to budgetary and timeline constraints. Phase 2 will address these gaps, respond to emerging park needs, and further protect the park’s environmentally significant areas.
What can I expect during construction?
The park will remain open throughout construction. You may see crews on-site as work is underway. Please watch for signage and crews as we complete this important work.
How to visit Haskayne Legacy Park
Please note: Woodland Road is a new road, so Google Maps might not reflect accurate directions yet.
To get to Haskayne Legacy Park, follow the directions below.
From Calgary
There is only one vehicle route into the park from Calgary:
- Drive west on Crowchild Trail N.W. (Highway 1A) past Tuscany and Rocky Ridge
- Continue towards Rocky View County/Cochrane
- Turn south onto Woodland Road (Range Road 31). Woodland Road is your first left after you pass through the Bearspaw Road lights on Highway 1A.
- Follow Woodland Road until you get to the end of the paved road and then travel along the gravel road where you will reach the parking lots
From Cochrane
There is only one vehicle route into the park from Cochrane:
- Drive east on Crowchild Trail N.W. (Highway 1A) towards Calgary
- Turn south onto Woodland Road (Range Road 31)
- Follow Woodland Road until you get to the end of the paved road and then travel along the gravel road where you will reach the parking lots
