Memorial Drive & 52 Street N.E. feeder main project

The feeder main at Memorial Drive and 52 Street N.E. will be redesigned this fall. Work will include moving valves from beneath the intersection to curb-side locations to allow for improved maintenance and to prepare for a critical feeder main extension in the future to service NE Calgary.  This includes the East Belvedere Feeder Main  which will connect to an existing feeder main at Memorial Drive S.E. and 68 Street S.E. The new two kilometre feeder main will extend east past Stoney Trail. Construction is planned to begin this fall and is expected to be complete in fall/winter 2026.

The project is currently scheduled to begin the first week of November and carry through to late December.  Construction activities are dependent on several factors. Timelines may change due to inclement weather, complexity, supply chain, and/or other unexpected circumstances.

Project benefits

This work will improve our ability to provide utilities services to N.E. Calgary while providing an opportunity to inspect a large area of the system at the same time; this helps in the collection of important data on the current condition of the infrastructure which helps future planning and design.

When future maintenance access and work is required on the new feeder main valves, it will be less disruptive to traffic, as the new valves will be located well outside of the intersection of Memorial Drive & 52 Street N.E.
