Off-Leash Ambassador program

The Off-Leash Ambassador program is a volunteer-led approach to educating citizens about responsible pet ownership and safety in off-leash areas. The program was launched in 2013 as part of our commitment to work with and support Calgarians to comply with the bylaws in our 160 off-leash areas. Off-Leash Ambassadors help educate citizens about the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, which outlines responsibilities for dog owners, such as removing dog waste and keeping their dogs under control at all times.

Volunteers

Volunteers in the Off-Leash Ambassador program:

  • act as positive role models, promoting responsible pet ownership, positive pet interactions and safety in off-leash parks and at community events
  • highlight services at the City of Calgary Animal Services Centre, such as licensing and the no-cost spay and neuter program
  • answer questions about Calgary’s bylaws in off-leash areas and share citizen concerns with city staff through the use of 311

New volunteers receive an orientation which includes a training program that reviews the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw as well as information on animal behavior and safety.

Upon submitting an application, a staff member will be in touch to provide information about training and the recruitment process.
