Environmental Construction Operations (ECO) Plans
We require that contractors develop Environmental Construction Operations Plans (ECO Plans) to manage their environmental impacts and compliance obligations on major construction projects. If an ECO Plan is required it will be outlined in the bid document.
What is an ECO plan?
An ECO plan consists of written procedures on the protection measures that the contractor will follow to protect the environment.
It also demonstrates how the contractor will comply with all applicable legislation, regulations, permits and approvals during the project and the obligations outlined in the bid package may include but not limited to the Contractor Environmental Responsibilities Package (CERP) and Standard General Conditions (SGCs).
The contractor is responsible to ensure site personnel are aware and equipped to follow the ECO plan. The ECO plan is intended to answer these questions:
- What are the potential environmental issues on site?
- Who is responsible for dealing with these issues?
- What control measures are in place to minimize impacts and meet environmental requirements?
How to create an ECO plan
The ECO Plan Policy provides direction to use the Framework which details the requirements of an ECO Plan. Use the Checklist and Template to help create the ECO Plan.
