How to recycle plastic food bags and wrappers
Examples of stretchy plastic bags
- Plastic shopping bags and grocery bags
- Produce bags
- Bread bags
- Frozen vegetable and fruit bags
- Sandwich/lunch bags
- Resealable bags and freezer bags (e.g. Ziploc)
- Deli bags
- Cereal and cracker box liners
- Fruit bags used for grapes and cherries
- Vegetable bags used for prewashed spinach or salad kits
- Cheese string wrappers
- Woven plastic bags (similar to a tarp) used for rice, pet food, onions etc.

Put into your blue cart or take to a community recycling depot
Put empty and clean plastic bags and wrappers:
- Into your blue cart for recycling
- Take to a community recycling depot
Special instructions
- Put leftover food scraps into the compost.
- Turn bags inside out to shake out crumbs.
- Remove stickers and labels off the bags where possible. If some of the sticker is left behind, that’s ok.
- Bundling of bags is no longer required.
