2022 Property Tax Bylaws

The 2022 Property Tax Bylaws have been approved. The property tax-related bylaws set the rates for 2022 property taxes for residential and non-residential properties. Property tax provides over 46 per cent of The City’s overall revenue to deliver local municipal services and is the primary source of funding for City services that Calgarians rely on and use everyday.

The final property tax rate is approved by Council each spring, after The City receives the provincial government’s property tax requisition. The funds collected through property tax are generally split between the Province and The City. In 2022, 66 per cent of the residential property tax paid by homeowners will remain in Calgary to meet municipal needs and 34 per cent will go to the Province to meet the provincial property tax requisition.

Tax bills will be mailed to property owners the week of May 24 and have a payment due date of June 30. The City’s Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) allows property owners to pay their property taxes through monthly installments, rather than having to pay in one lump sum before the June 30 payment deadline.

Calgarians can go to calgary.ca/taxcalculator and enter their property assessment to get an estimate of what their property tax bill is before it is mailed in late May. The calculator can also show property owners their year-to-year tax change, as well as a breakdown of where their residential tax dollars are being spent.
